Title: World's Largest Vanadium Redox Flow Battery PV-Storage Integrated Project Fully Connected to Grid with Full Capacity!

In July 2025, the main works of the Jimsar Beiting 1,000MW + 200MW/1,000MWh vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) energy storage integrated project in Xinjiang were successfully completed, and the project construction has entered the final stage. With a total investment exceeding 3.8 billion RMB, the project has built China's largest-scale vanadium flow battery energy storage system, featuring a storage duration of 5 hours, an energy storage capacity of 1,000MWh, and an installed capacity of 1,000MW. This marks that China's long-duration energy storage technology has entered the stage of large-scale application.
After the project is put into operation, the annual power generation will reach 1.72 billion kilowatt-hours. It will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1.6 million tons per year, which is equivalent to adding 56,000 hectares of carbon sink forests on the Gobi desert. According to the operation data of State Grid, the energy storage system has significantly reduced the regional photovoltaic curtailment rate. At the same time, the project construction has driven the formation of a complete industrial chain locally and created more than 2,200 job opportunities.
Progress in the implementation of the "Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region New Energy Storage Development Plan (2023-2025)" shows that by the end of 2025, Xinjiang's grid-connected new energy storage scale is expected to exceed 20,000MW, with a total of 218 new energy storage power stations completed. Its installed scale ranks among the top in the country and first in western China.
At present, similar projects have been launched in Yumen (Gansu Province), Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture (Qinghai Province) and other places, marking that China's flow battery energy storage technology has officially entered the stage of large-scale application. Against the macro background of building a new power system, such long-duration energy storage projects have become an important fulcrum for balancing ecological protection and energy development. They not only ensure the stable power output of new energy bases in western China but also reduce the ecological burden caused by reliance on fossil energy. As more similar projects are launched in ecological barrier areas such as the upper reaches of the Yellow River and the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, vanadium redox flow battery technology is becoming an important technical carrier for China to achieve the dual goals of the energy revolution and ecological civilization construction.
